Government Structure: 

• Chief of State: President Vahagn KHACHATURYAN (since 13 January 2022) 

• Head of Government: Prime Minister Nikol PASHINYAN (since 8 May 2018) 

• Assembly: unicameral, 101-seat* National Assembly (Ազգային ժողով) 

*101 is the minimum statutory number of representatives to the Armenian National Assembly. 

Electoral System: 

• The President is elected via the National Assembly to serve a 7-year term. Presidents are only eligible for one term limit. 

• The Prime Minister is nominated by the majority party or coalition, and appointed by the President (Constitution, Article 149).  

• 101 members of the National Assembly are directly elected via proportional vote. 4 seats are reserved for members of ethnic minorities. The thresholds for securing seats vary. A single party must secure 4% of the vote; an alliance of up to three parties must receive a cumulative total of 8% of the vote; and an alliance of four or more parties must receive a cumulative total of 10% of the vote to secure a mandate. At least three political parties or alliances must be represented in the Parliament. All members serve a 5-year term. 

Last Election: 

The last parliamentary election was held on June 20, 2021. Civil Contract won 71 seats, Armenia Alliance won 29 seats, and I Have Honor Alliance won 7 seats. Voter turnout was 49%.
