General Information

At Stake in this Election:  

  • 200 of 300 seats in the Egyptian Senate 

 

  • Chief of State: President Abdel Fattah AL SISI (since 08 Jun 2014) 

  • Head of Government: Prime Minister Moustafa Kamal MADBOULY (since 14 Jun 2018) 

  • Assembly: bicameral Parliament with 300 seat Senate (Majlis Al-Shiyoukh) and 596 seat House of Representatives (Majlis Al-Nuwab) 

 

  • The President is elected by majority vote in up to two rounds to a once consecutively renewable 6-year term. 

  • The Prime Minister is nominated by the President and approved by the House of Representatives. 

  • 200 of the 300 members in the Senate are directly elected, 100 being elected by closed party list and the remaining 100 through majority vote in two rounds in 27 constituencies. The final 100 members are appointed by the President.  

  • 568 of 596 members in the House of Representatives are directly elected, 284 being elected by proportional representation in four constituencies and the remaining 284 through majority vote in two rounds in 142 constituencies. 

 

In the last election in 2020, Future of the Nation won a majority with 148 seats. Voter turnout was 14%.
