Electoral System: 

  • The President of Chile is elected to a four-year term using a two-round system in which the winning candidate must secure an absolute majority to win. [1]
  • The Chamber of Deputies consists of 155 directly elected seats using a party list proportional representation system and D’Hondt coefficient, in which members serve four-year terms. Deputies run for office in one of 28 multi-member electoral districts ranging from three to eight seats each. [2]
  • The Senate consists of 50 directly elected seats using a party list proportional representation system and D’Hondt coefficient, in which members serve eight-year terms. Senators runs for office in one of fifteen multi-member electoral districts ranging from two to five seats each. [3]
