At Stake in this Election 

  • All 17 seats in the House of Assembly. 

 

  • Chief of State: King CHARLES III (since 8 September 2022), represented by Acting Governor General Errol CHARLES (since 11 November 2021) 

  • Head of Government: Prime Minister Philip J. PIERRE (since 28 July 2021) 

  • Assembly: bicameral House of Parliament, comprised of the 17-seat House of Assembly and the 11-seat Senate.  

 

  • The monarchy is hereditary and the Governor General is appointed by the monarch.  

  • The Prime Minister is appointed by the Governor General and is usually the leader of the majority party or coalition.  

  • Members of the House of Assembly are directly elected via a first-past-the-post system from single-seat constituencies. Members serve 5 year terms. 

  • All members of the Senate are appointed. Six senators are appointed by the Governor General on the advice of the Prime Minister, three senators are appointed by the Governor General on the advice of the Leader of the Opposition, and 2 are appointed by the Governor General of their own accord. Senators serve 5-year terms. 

 

The last parliamentary election was held on October 12, 2021. The Saint Lucia Labor Party won 13 seats and the United Workers Party won 2. Voter turnout was 50%.
