At Stake in this Election: 

  • The Presidency of Guinea. 

 

  • Chief of State: President Mamadi DOUMBOUYA (since 1 October 2021) 

  • Head of Government: Prime Minister Amadou Oury BAH (since 27 February 2024) 

  • Assembly: At present, the legislature is comprised of the Transitional National Council (Conseil national de transition), an appointed unicameral, 81-seat body. 

 

  • The President is typically directly elected through a two-round majoritarian system 

  • The Prime Minister is appointed by the President 

  • The 2025 Constitution officially established a bicameral legislature. Two-thirds of the Senate seats are indirectly elected, and one-third is appointed by the President. At present, the Transitional National Council’s seats are all appointed. 

 

Last Election: 

The last presidential election was held in October 2020, ahead of the coup and the changed constitution which was adopted by referendum last year. Voter turnout in the last presidential election was 79%.
