General Information
At Stake in this Election:
Uruguayans will vote in plebiscites on two matters: a legal standard that prevents police searches of domiciles at night and social security reforms. The referendum would amend Article 11 of the Constitution to allow police searches of domiciles at any time but only with the consent of the residents or judicial order. The proposed social security reforms would lower the retirement age from 65 to 50, declare social security as a human right, and bring minimum payments up to the minimum wage.
