  • The Legislative Assembly of Montserrat has eleven members, of which nine are elected through single member districts in 2 rounds. They are elected for five-year terms. The other two seats are taken by the Attorney General and the Financial Secretary, who are appointed by the Governor, in consultation with the Premier. 

 

In the 2019 legislative election, the People’s Democratic Movement won a majority with 5 seats. Voter turnout was 63%.

In 2023, Montserrat updated its electoral code to increase access to voting. Unconvicted prisoners, such as those awaiting trial, are now able to vote. Montserrat also introduced mobile voting stations to facilitate voting by individuals in hospitals and other care facilities. In 2024, Montserrat increased the candidate registration fee from $500 to $1000.
