At Stake in this Election:
- The Presidency of Azerbaijan
- Chief of State: President Ilham ALIYEV (since 31 October 2003)
- Head of Government: Prime Minister Ali ASADOV (since 8 October 2019)
- Assembly: unicameral National Assembly (Milli Mejlis) with 116 seats
- The President is directly elected by absolute majority vote in up to two rounds. The President may serve unlimited 7-year terms.
- The Prime Minister is nominated by the President and confirmed by the National Assembly.
- In the National Assembly, 116 members are directly elected by plurality vote in single-seat constituencies. All members serve 5-year terms.
In the 2018 presidential election, Ilham ALIYEV (YAP) won with 86.02% of the vote, defeating seven other candidates. Voter turnout was 74%.

New/Unique in this Election:
In December 2023, President ALIYEV called a snap presidential election. This will be the first Azerbaijani election to include polling places in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, formerly a self-governing area with a predominantly Armenian population, which was forcibly brought under Azerbaijani control in September 2023.

- Voter registration deadline: Voter registration is passive and residence-based for citizens living within Azerbaijan.
- Overseas voters must register by 13 January 2024.
