Electoral System:  

• The Chief of State is a hereditary role. 

• The Prime Minister is appointed by the Chief of State. 

• The 24 members of the National Council are elected to five-year terms. 16 members are chosen by earning the highest number of votes. The remaining 8 seats are chosen from lists using proportional representation with parties receiving at least 5% of the vote.

• In 2018, a new party, Primo! Priorite Monaco, (which split from the largest party, Horizon Monaco) received 57% of the vote and 21 seats. Horizon Monaco received 2 seats. There was an estimated 67% voter turnout.
