- In the Senate, 24 members are appointed by the president on the advice of the Great Council of Chiefs, 9 members are appointed by the president, and 1 member is appointed by the Council of Rotuma. In the House of Representatives, 71 members are elected by a majority system with preferential vote to serve 5-year terms.

- Parliamentary elections were last held on 25 August 2001. In that election, The Fijian United Party won 31 seats and the Fiji Labour Party won 27. The Conservative Alliance won 7, the New Labour Unity Party won 2, and the United General Party and National Federation Party each took 1. Additionally, 2 independent candidates won seats.
