Description of electoral system:
- The Queen of Denmark is hereditary.
- The High Commissioner is appointed by the monarch.
- The Prime Minister is elected by parliament to serve a 4-year term.
- In the Parliament (Diet/Kalaallit Nunaanni Inatsisartut) 31 members are elected by open list proportional representation in multi-member constituencies to serve 4-year terms.*

Last election:
- The last election to the Diet in Greenland was a snap election held on 28 November 2014. Protests over an “expenses scandal involving Prime Minister Aleqa HAMMOND” led to the fall of the government on 1 October 2014. The Simiut party (S - 34.6%) and Inuit Ataqatigiit (IA - 33.5%) won 11 seats each. The Democrats (11.8%) took 4 seats and Solidarity (6.5%) took 2. Full results can be found here.
