Description of electoral system:

  • The Queen is hereditary.
  • The Chief Executive is appointed by the governor.
  • In the Legislative Assembly, 8 members are elected by block vote to serve 4-year terms and 2 members are appointed ex-officio to serve 4-year terms. There are two electoral districts in the Falkland Islands, with 5 members elected in the Stanley Constituency and 3 for the Camp Constituency. The ex-officio members are the Chief Executive and the Financial Secretary.
