Description of government structure:

Chief of State: President Ekaterini SAKELLAROPOULOU (since 13 March 2020)
Head of Government: Prime Minister Kyriakos MITSOTAKIS (since 27 June 2023)
Assembly: Greece has a unicameral Parliament (Vouli ton Ellinon / Βουλή των Ελλήνων) with 300 seats.

Description of electoral system:

The President is elected by parliament to serve a 5-year term.
The Prime Minister (typically the majority party/coalition leader) is appointed by the President.
In the Parliament (Vouli ton Ellinon), 50 seats are allocated to the party that wins a plurality of the national vote. An additional 238 members are elected in multi-member constituencies, and 12 members are elected in a single, nationwide constituency. These 250 seats are allocated proportionally among all parties who win at least 3% of the national vote.*

* Starting with the 2027 election, if the winning party receives at least 25% of the national vote, it will receive at least 20 additional seats with one seat added for each 0.5% of the national vote won over 25% for a maximum of 50 additional seats. The remaining parliamentary seats will be divided among other parties who won at least 3% of the national vote according to the proportion of votes won.
