Description of government structure:

• Chief of State: President Ramchandra PAUDEL (since 13 March 2023)
• Head of Government: Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli (since 15 July 2024)
• Assembly: Nepal has a bicameral Federal Parliament (Rastriya Sabha) consisting of a 59-seat National Assembly (Sambidhan Sabha) and a 275-seat House of Representatives (Pratinidhi Sabha).

Description of electoral system:

• The President is elected by an electoral college composed of national and state assembly members.  The President may serve up to two 5-year terms.
  • The Vice President is elected after the president via the same procedure.  The President and Vice President must be of different ethnicities or genders.
• The Prime Minister is elected by the Constituent Assembly.
• In the National Assembly, 56 members are elected by an electoral college of provincial, municipal, and village officials in multi-seat constituencies (eight seats per province).  The remaining 3 members are appointed by the President.  Assembly members serve 6-year terms and one-third of seats are contested every 2 years.
  • ​​​​​​​The 56 elected members must include at least 3 women, 1 Dalit, and 1 person with a disability or member of another minority group.  The 3 appointed members must include at least 1 woman.
• In the House of Representatives, 165 members are elected via first-past-the-post vote in single-member constituencies, and the remaining 110 members are elected via closed-list proportional vote in a single, nationwide constituency.  Representatives serve 5-year terms.
