Assembly: Bicameral legislature consisting of a 17-seat House of Representatives and a 17-seat Senate

Electoral System:

The Chief of State is the monarch who then appoints the governor-general as vice-regal representative.

The Prime Minister is generally the leader of the majority party after elections in the House of Representatives.
The 17 members of the House of Representatives are elected in single-member constituencies by first-past-the-post voting. 16 of the seats were allocated for the island of Antigua and one for the island of Barbuda. They are elected to 5-year terms.
The 17 members of the Senate are appointed by members of the government and the opposition party and approved by the governor-general.
