Description of government structure:

  • Chief of State: Lord of Mann Queen ELIZABETH II (since 6 February 1952); represented by Lieutenant Governor Sir Richard GOZNEY (since 27 May 2016)
  • Head of Government: Chief Minister Allan BELL (since 11 October 2011)
  • Assembly: Isle of Man has a bicameral Tynwald (High Court) consisting of the Legislative Council with 11 seats and the House of Keys with 24 seats. Members serve 5-year terms.

Note: Isle of Man is a Crown dependency of the United Kingdom, but it is largely self-governing. However, the Chief of State for Isle of Man is Queen ELIZABETH II, the UK Chief of State, and the government of the United Kingdom is responsible for international representation and defense.

  • For the House of Keys, members are directly elected by simple majority vote. There are political parties in the Isle of Man, but most candidates stand as independents.
